Gordy Cassel is an actor, writer, and filmmaker from Louisiana now living in New York City. After demanding their grandmother help them find a library book about the craft of acting, they embarked wholeheartedly on performance and storytelling, resulting in their first completed feature film before even turning 18.They attended the University of New Orleans for Film, where an internship with Will Greenfield (EP of BUGONIA and SINNERS) pushed them to move to Chicago and pursue their dreams. They soon flourished in improv groups such as Second City, iO, and CIC Theater, and in training with Jimmy Corraine (host of podcast Improv Nerd). Despite being unrepresented as an actor, Gordy's tenacity landed them roles on "EMPIRE", "CHICAGO P.D.", and a breakout leading role as a resilient cancer patient in the feature film GINGER (2016), which showed off their dramatic range and also garnered them an array of acting awards. Soon thereafter, Gordy had a big life moment when they not only came out as queer and non-binary, but they went back to their creative roots of creating work on their own terms, resulting in an array of shorts and feature films with friends. Gordy returned to the stage in 2022, performing in the 1970s feminist classic DUSA, FISH, STAS, and VI at the Fat Squirrel Theater in New Orleans.
It wasn't long before Gordy was making appearances as Linda Hamilton's daughter in EASY DOES IT (2020), alongside Lucy Faust in DONOR (2025), and as a woman living with the effects of a traumatic brain injury in WEST OF GREATNESS, the last of which premiered in 2025 at Geena Davis' Bentonville Film Festival, won the Audience Award at the New Orleans Film Festival, and further cemented Gordy's chameleon-like ability to disappear into any given role. Gordy will be seen next on Tubi as a mercurial ventriloquist in the 1970s-set horror feature THE FUZZIES (Kevin Smith's 2025 Smodcastle Film Festival) and in their own long-gestating spec pilot SWEET FEENIES, which is currently in production.
